The launch of the PS5 Pro has been delayed and the PS5 is to blame

The PS5 Pro release date has been set at sometime in 2024. We didn’t have an exact date, and the numerous rumors that surfaced a few months ago didn’t quite match up, with some pointing to the middle of that year and others going straight to the third or fourth quarter of that year.

About a few weeks ago, there was a very interesting piece of information that said that Sony had delayed the launch of the PS5 Slim because, in theory, I’ve accumulated a lot of PS5 stock. Finally, this information it was finally confirmed officially when Sony introduced the said console and said that it will be available because the stock of the original model has been cleared.

This tells us three important things. The first is Sony production capacity has improved significantly PS5 and therefore there are no more shortage issues. Second, it suggests consumer interest in said console declined noticeably and that it affects sales. It finally hints at that too the PS5 Pro launch would be delayedand that the reason would be the same as what we already know, Sony’s need to clear inventory and give more space to the PS5 Slim.

PS5 Pro concept

This makes a lot of sense, because after all, with the delay of the launch of the PS5 Slim, it is the most normal, right a ripple effect that affects other productsincluding PS5 Pro. Sony has made it clear that the introductory price of the Slim version will be the same as the price of the standard console in both versions with and without an optical drive, which means that if the Japanese company decides to launch a Pro version, the model will have to significantly increase the price of this to differentiate itself.

PS5 Slim with optical drive will cost 549.99 euros and the version without an optical drive will be at a price 449.99 euros. With these prices in mind, it’s easy to find a possible launch price for the PS5 Pro, which should differ from both by approx 749.99 or 799.99 euros. It goes without saying that this price level would be very high and could cause strong rejection among consumers.

It is for this reason that I just told you that it makes sense for Sony to delay the launch of the PS5 Pro. It is clear that the Japanese company does not want to reduce the price of the PS5, it has already demonstrated this with the announcement of the Slim models, and the launch of the PS5 Pro in the short or medium term would make the Japanese company lower prices or launch a console with a price that is too high.

Personally, I’m inclined to believe that the PS5 Pro launch will happen between the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025. It will all depend on how sales of the current models develop in the short term, how long it will take for the Japanese company to run out of stock, and also what Microsoft will do with the eventual renewal of its Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
