The Apple iPad, iPad Mini and iPad Air are getting a small specification upgrade this week with new chips.

Chances are good that Apple will announce new iPads in a standard press release this week and make the devices available immediately. According to 9to5Mac, three iPad models are getting a small upgrade: the base model, the iPad Air and the iPad Mini.

Both the iPad Air and iPad Mini get a spec boost with an M2 and A16 Bionic chip, respectively. It is not yet known what the base model iPad will receive as an upgrade. The iPad Air received an update to the Apple M1 chip and 5G connectivity early last year.

It’s been two years since the iPad Mini was last upgraded. The smallest iPad then received its long-awaited redesign and USB-C connectivity. The report from Apple insiders also points to a possible update to the iPad Mini’s screen controller to fix the “jelly scroll” effect.

Aside from a few minor upgrades, Apple isn’t making any major changes to the iPad models. Therefore, only a brief update and not a major presentation is expected at some point this week. The iPad Pro received an update last year and will not be available until 2024, probably with an OLED screen for the first time.

It goes without saying that these are rumors and should be treated with caution. On the other hand, the time has come to upgrade the three models now. We’ll have to wait and see if Apple suddenly releases any news this week.
