Apple may be planning to announce the next generation MacBook next year. These upcoming laptop models will be powered by the company’s latest M3 chipset, which is expected to offer improved performance and power efficiency. Here’s everything we know.
This was reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The Cupertino-based giant is said to launch new iPad models at the end of this week, but the new generation MacBooks will reportedly be released next year. Gurman’s report also added that the M3-based MacBook will be released between spring and summer at the earliest. Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter adds that the 13-inch and 15-inch M3 MacBook Airs are currently undergoing engineering verification (EVT).
M3 MacBook Pro models are in the later stages of development and are approaching mass production. “The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips have reached the DVT (Design Validation Test) stage,” Mark said. If this is true, the new MacBooks could be released in early or spring 2024.
This is consistent with Apple’s previous launch cycle, as the M2 Pro and M2 Max superseded the MacBook Pro in January 2023. Interestingly, the report also contradicts rumors of a new iPad launching later this week. These new tablets will feature modest upgrades like the A16 Bionic and M2 chipset. However, no major changes are planned for future iPads.
