WhatsApp launches password-free access feature for Android users

Popular messaging application WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is launching a new password-free access feature for all Android users. This new feature will provide users with a more secure and convenient way to log in to their WhatsApp accounts without the need for traditional passwords or two-factor authentication via SMS.

Access keys are a new type of login credentials that are more secure and easier to use than traditional passwords. They are based on public key cryptography and use authentication mechanisms built into the device, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. This makes access keys much more resistant to phishing attacks and other forms of password theft.

To use the new password feature on WhatsApp, Android users will simply need to register their devices with a password. Once registered, they will be able to log in to WhatsApp using a password, without the need to enter a password or receive a two-factor SMS code.

This feature will be available to all Android users in the next few months. To check if it is available on your device, open WhatsApp and go to: Settings > Account. If you see ” optionAccess keys“, then everything is ready.

The introduction of password key support in WhatsApp is a welcome development as it will make the application more secure and user-friendly. Passkeys are a promising new technology that could replace traditional passwords in the future, and it’s good to see WhatsApp is one of the first major apps to use this technology.
