Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25120, which begins testing the concept of “light interactive content” on the operating system desktop. Users are currently provided with a search bar, which is essentially a common widget. According to the company, this is the first of many similar tools that Microsoft will gradually add to Windows 11.

Some users using the Developer Channel will see a new search box in the latest version of Windows 11 very similar to the one on Android. This is not a systematic search, but an on-demand web search that allows you to quickly find the information you need on the Internet. Those who do not like this area on the desktop can disable this feature. To do this, right-click on the desktop, select the “Show advanced options” menu, and then uncheck “Show search”.

It’s hard to say whether a search widget would be useful on a computer. Probably most users are always open browsers and it is easier to search in them than to always return to the desktop. We can assume that Microsoft is trying to force users to use the Edge browser and search Bing again in this way.
