It starts with six new desktop processors. Intel’s 14th generation mobile chips will have to wait until December.

Six new 14th generation Intel chips will be coming onto the market today under the code name Raptor Lake Refresh. The top model, the Intel Core i9-14900K, receives a 6 GHz boost clock as standard for the first time. Last year there was a limited edition Intel Core i7-13900KS that broke the 6GHz barrier, but now you can get the new generation Core i9 at any store.

It’s nice to flex your muscles at turbo clock speeds, but it’s unknown how long the chip will last. Then the important further development of the Core i7 series with an increase from eight to twelve efficiency cores (E-cores) is more interesting. The number of performance cores (P-Cores) remains the same as in the previous generation at eight.

It goes without saying that Intel will only share the better results with the world in its own presentation. Below you can see how the new chips compare to the previous generation and compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X.

All 14th Gen Intel chips work with Intel 600 and 700 motherboards because the chipmaker still uses the same LGA 1700 socket. The chips support WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 in high-end Z790 series motherboards. DDR5 5600 and DDR4 3200 are the maximum memory speeds Intel supports.

The chips will be priced identically to the 13th Gen Intel chips when they launched last year. You can see the prices in dollars above. Euro prices are not yet available, but local webshops will publish the new chips including their prices later today.
