Today we thought we would present the new iPads, but the Cupertino company’s product update was limited to the new Apple Pencil, which, with a USB Type-C charging port as a novelty, will the cheapest stylus companies.

Apple says the goal of the new stylus is «give iPad tablet users more choices more affordable ». Yes, believe it or not, the new Apple Pencil has a price 79 dollars, lower than the original model and Pencil 2, which we can consider top-of-the-line. Of course, lowering the price has its liabilities.

The design of the new pencil is identical to the existing Apple Pencil 2, right down to the rounded top and flattened grip line that runs through the vertical axis. It even magnetically attaches to the iPad just like him. There it goes into sleep mode to save power, but it cannot be charged via this connection. You’ll need to slide off the top cover to reveal the USB-C port and charge with a cable. At least the company is burying the Lightning connector, as it had to do with its latest iPhones.

The new Apple Pencil

The new Apple Pencil offers the same level of precision and low latency or tilt sensitivity as the original and second-generation stylus, but it lacks important functions compared to it, such as wireless pairing, double-tap actions, or pressure sensitivity. Apple also won’t be offering its free engraving service for the new model.

It seems clear that the Apple Pencil is intended for basic use on lower-priced iPads, while the Pencil 2 will continue to be the iPad Pro of choice for creatives who need more advanced features. In any case, all three models are available on Apple’s website.

The new Apple Pencil, compatibility, availability and price

The compatibility of the new pencil with business tablets is generous and reaches:

  • iPad Pro 12.9 inches: from third to sixth generation.
  • iPad Pro 11 inches: from the first to the fourth generation.
  • iPad Air: fourth and fifth generation.
  • iPad mini: sixth generation.
  • iPad: 10th generation.

It will be available in November in the United States with an official price of $79.
