One of the biggest threats to artificial intelligence is the disinformation and mass propaganda produced by this technology. For this reason, the world is now trying to develop virtual assistants that will quickly provide data regarding the accuracy of information.
Ukrinform reports in this publication Ukrainian Radio was informed by Olga Petriv, lawyer and member of the Committee on the Development of Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Digitization.
Talking about the dangers associated with the use of artificial intelligence, he said: “One of the biggest threats is disinformation and mass propaganda produced by artificial intelligence technology. What can happen to our society and what are many people interested in the development of artificial intelligence saying?” artificial intelligence systems – we will now have the assumption of lies compared to the consumption of information before.”
According to Petriv, people often place undue trust in the media: “Analytical data show that people consume a lot of information on the Internet, on various public and social networks. Moreover, given how easy it is now to create the most convincing sites, imitate them, “imitating well-known media, then disinformation that is so widely distributed can soon fill the Internet, and then the assumption of lies will develop more strongly.”
The expert noted that so much misinformation, especially produced during various political processes and election campaigns, causes people to spend much more time and resources to check whether this information is actually true or not. Nowadays, trusting information from any source is sometimes quite risky. For example, it added, considering how republishing questionable material could affect reputation.
According to Petriv, to prevent the consumption of such information, experts are trying to develop such virtual assistants that will quickly provide data on the accuracy of information while spending a minimum of time. “And these virtual assistants need to work based on artificial intelligence. We should focus on this in the near future,” he said.
The expert also said that Ukraine participated in the launch of a pilot project on the regulation of artificial intelligence, which is being developed by the Council of Europe. “It’s a methodology for determining how an AI system impacts human rights, the rule of law and democracy, how it will potentially impact those. And whether those rights will be violated. There’s a debate around regulation; that’s what’s laid out in the roadmap.” It is a controlled environment where startups or companies, from the beginning of their formation and throughout their development process, can be in a controlled environment where they can best develop their systems to meet the requirements of the law. “It will be included in the road map in the EU (Artificial Intelligence Law, Artificial Intelligence Law). These are also sectoral recommendations,” explained Petriv.
Ministry of Digital Transformation as reported by Ukrinform Developed a roadmap for regulating artificial intelligence in Ukraine.
European Parliament in June 2023 Approved the project that will form the basis of future legislation on rules for the regulation of artificial intelligence.
