You may have ever wondered if you can change your Windows username, the one you use as your main home account to access the operating system and which is registered during the same installation.

Yeah; It can be changed whether you’re using a local account or a Microsoft account, which the company recommends using to extend your own apps and services for obvious reasons.

Username in Windows

In local accounts (ideal if you don’t want to link an online identity and with a higher degree of privacy than those that use Microsoft ID) changing the name can be easily done from the Windows 10 or Windows 11 control panel. The following shape:

• Open Control Panel from the Start menu > Windows System.

• Click on User Accounts.

• Click ‘change account name’.

• Enter a name for the new account.

• The new name will appear on the login screen and home screen.

If you use a Microsoft accountyou can also change the username in Windows:

• Go to Settings > Accounts > Your Information.

• Click on Accounts (Manage my accounts)
• You will be taken to the Microsoft account page.

• Log in (if prompted), click on the ‘Your Information’ tab, then ‘Edit Name’.
• Enter the new name you want to use for the account, enter the CAPTCHA and save.
• Restart your computer and you should see the new name on the login screen.
