One-off intercept messages in WhatsApp are now being evaluated by beta testers. A later rollout to all users is planned.

After the news that WhatsApp now supports passkeys, there is already another innovation. According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp includes a feature for sending voice messages that you can only listen to once. As beta testers, we haven’t seen the feature yet, but there’s a good chance the new feature will be rolled out to testers gradually.

The function works similarly to the previous one-time display of photos and videos. With this option, the media disappears immediately when opened by the recipient. WhatsApp later blocked taking screenshots or the screen recording feature on smartphones.

The function only works in the beta version of WhatsApp for now. You can register for the beta using an Android phone by clicking this link and signing in with your Google profile. If you have an iPhone, you have to work via TestFlight. Currently the number of slots in iOS has been exhausted.

It’s not clear when the feature will be widely rolled out. It typically takes between four and eight weeks for a beta feature to roll out publicly, but sometimes it can take longer.

WhatsApp regularly adds new features. For example, we are working on a way to plan events in chat groups and you should soon be able to use Meta AI as a chat assistant. At the beginning of last month, it improved the quality of your photos and videos.
