According to Xiaomi, HyperOS “We will put people at the center to create a fully sustainable operating system for people, cars and families.”. It is claimed that HyperOS, which will appear for the first time in the Xiaomi 14 series, will have “no similarities” with MIUI. However, from the first screenshots uploaded to the network it is clear that this is not the case.
All Xiaomi smartphones released so far run on Android under its own launcher (shell) MIUI. This means that the company only gave it certain design features and built in its own small functions. But it was basically the same operating system as everyone else and had the same general features.
Company did not show the interface of the new operating system in the presentation. So we don’t know exactly what has changed enough to justify the name “new operating system”, which it really isn’t. From where? Because it’s Android too.
To understand what we are talking about, it is worth mentioning the example of Huawei, which created its own operating system HarmonyOS after the imposition of sanctions against it. And although the company won’t admit it, the operating system has deep roots in Android; It uses the source code, its core, but adds its own plugins. In the case of HyperOS, Xiaomi says its system “Based on the integration of deeply developed Android and self-developed Vela system”It seems to completely rewrite the underlying architecture.
The first screenshots appeared on the network very quickly, showing the lock screen of HyperOS, the desktop and the interface of some programs.

As you can see, there has been no revolutionary change, but some differences are still noticeable:
But overall, it feels more like a slight update than something completely new.
A comparison of HyperOS and MIUI has already appeared on YouTube: a video
HyperOS is positioned by Xiaomi as a universal platform that will simplify the interaction between various devices such as smartphones, laptops, smart home appliances. It will also be used in Xiaomi electric cars. Huawei is doing the same today, so it can be assumed that the company wants to copy the experience of its Chinese rival.
It’s unclear what impact this will have on Xiaomi devices sold outside of China. It is not yet known whether the international versions of the company’s smartphones will continue to run on MIUI or switch to HyperOS.
