Year-on-year, barely one percent fewer phones were sold in the last quarter than in the same period in 2022.

According to the market research agency Canalys, the smartphone market is recovering steadily, but there is still a lot of uncertainty. Toby Zhu, analyst at Canalys: “Global macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties make the current recovery in canal operations very fragile.”

The research institute assumes that the growth of the smartphone market will slow down in the medium to long term. It warns manufacturers about proper inventory monitoring.

“We see smartphone manufacturers responding to this to manage future price spikes in the supply chain.”

Samsung tops the list

If we look at the biggest smartphone brands worldwide, we see that Samsung remains number one, but is losing market share, ending up at 20 percent. Apple also loses something and ends up at 18 percent. Globally, Xiaomi remains stable at 14 percent and Oppo (and OnePlus) at 10 percent.
