US aerospace giant Boeing successfully launched its unmanned Starliner capsule to the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday.

This is stated in an AFP report, Ukrinform reports

“The Orbital Test Flight 2 (OFT-2) mission was launched at 6:54 PM Eastern Time from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, attached to the spacecraft United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket,” the statement said.

The successful launch was a prerequisite for Boeing to restore its reputation after the initial 2019 launch of the capsule, which was unable to dock with the ISS due to software errors. It had to be returned to Earth, where the deficiencies were made up.

At the same time, in the summer of 2021, the capsule was to go into space again, but due to malfunctions in the Russian “Science” module, which was supposed to launch it into orbit, the launch did not take place.

Prior to the launch of the OFT-2 mission, Boeing and NASA said all issues had been resolved. The spacecraft went into space this time with the rocket ship Atlas V United Launch Alliance.

As reported, NASA They said they plan to certify the Starliner as the second “taxi” service for their astronauts to the ISS. This role has already been successfully fulfilled by SpaceX company Ilona Maska when she flew the Dragon capsule in 2020.
