The spacecraft under the Gaganyaan mission was launched from Sriharikota on Saturday. This was the second attempt of the day; the first was canceled five seconds before the scheduled launch time.

The test was conducted to show whether the crew could safely abandon the rocket in the event of a malfunction.

“I am delighted to announce the successful completion of the TV-D1 (Test Vehicle Demonstration 1) mission,” Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief Sreedhar Somanath said in a statement after the launch. said.

The launch of a manned mission involving three astronauts into 400-kilometer low Earth orbit will only take place after the successful completion of a series of unmanned tests.

India approved the mission to send a crew into orbit in December 2018. The cost of the Gaganyaan project is estimated at $1 billion and the mission is planned to be completed in 2025.
