Google has reportedly launched a new RAW photo backup feature in the Google Photos app. The new feature is currently available for both Android and iOS. RAW photos are raw images that contain more detail and are used by professional photographers to evaluate or better edit photos.

Nowadays, RAW format photos on smartphones have become standard thanks to the wide support of relevant camera programs. Unlike in the past, Google Photos uploads RAW photos to Google Cloud by default. A message appeared in the application: “Google Photos Offers Raw Image Backup”

A special RAW image mark appears on photos. However, this feature is currently seen in the Pixel 8 series and is not available on Pixel Fold and other devices. Despite all the official announcements from Google, details about new features, availability and compatibility are currently unknown.

There are no tweaks or settings that prevent the Photos app from uploading RAW files to Google Storage. You can even go to the “Save” option and select ” Photo Settings > Backup > Backup Quality It doesn’t offer any solution. Since there is 15 GB of free memory available, photos in RAW format will fill the memory quite quickly. Highly recommended for photographers who use it for professional use only.

Google Photos is rolling out many new user-focused features to improve the overall experience. The Google Photos app recently introduced a revamped sharing menu that allows users to send images, create a new album, and add new images to an album. Giant has even introduced desktop editing tools that allow users to choose different filters and offer basic adjustments like changing brightness, saturation, HDR levels and more.
