If you’re a user of the well-known password manager Dashlane, but you’re on its free plan and you’re not planning to go bankrupt, the service just announced a change in terms that will most likely force you to abandon ship, so we’re warning you in advance.
We’ve been talking a lot lately about the end of passwords, a milestone that isn’t clear that we’ll ever see, but that with initiatives like Google or Microsoft seems to be closer than ever when it’s not. That’s why trusting a good password manager is still the best option today to keep all your credentials safe.
However, if you use Dashlane, one of the most popular solutions on the market, you will have to think carefully about what to do now that the new terms of service for users of the free plan are known. Characteristic, Starting November 7th, storage will be limited to 25 passwords on a single device you can use the app on. So several limitations of one.

This new change is in addition to others previously announced that also affected feature restrictions for free plan users and will be applied a bit later. So in December, Dashlane will limit email and chat support to paying users; Free plan users will still be able to use the help center to resolve any questions or issues.
Although this last measure may make more sense, the huge limitation of the number of passwords that can be saved is not and is, even if they do not say so, more than an obvious way to get rid of freeloaders, since few users will just be able to save only 25 keys. Why not remove the free plan instead of going to such extremes?
What if you’re on Dashlane’s free plan and have more than 25 passwords saved? Nothing. Everything you have will be respected. However, you will not be able to add any new ones if you exceed the applicable number. In other words, you either pay, which is not the end, or you look for an alternative. Fortunately, there are just as good and even better and without limits. a joke.
We leave you with a best practices article that includes some of these alternatives.
