Apple announces new Macs this month

As Mark Gurman reports BloombergApple plans to launch a Mac-focused product later this month, possibly announcing an updated 24-inch iMac.

In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Apple is “planning a Mac-focused product launch later this month,” which could lead to the release of a refreshed 24-inch “iMac” model, an overdue hardware update. . The current model was released in April 2021 and is the only current-generation Mac with the M1 chip. Gurman has repeatedly said that Apple’s next iMac will not have the M2 and will replace it with the M3 chip, but he declined to say in this newsletter exactly which chip the new computer will feature.

Gurman noted that Apple’s retail stores are currently short of “iMacs,” 13-inch MacBook Pros, and 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and many configurations will no longer arrive until mid-November. It’s a clear sign that something must be going on with these three cars. He added that Apple is “starting work” on the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Although the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro M2 Pro and ‌M2‌ Max models were introduced in January, he thinks “an additional refresh within the same year would be unusual but not unthinkable.”

Gurman believes the upcoming Mac announcement will happen on Monday, October 30, or Tuesday, October 31, followed by Apple’s earnings release on Thursday, November 2. He doesn’t expect any major changes to any of the new Macs, other than new processors, but he does think there could be minor improvements to their displays.

Gurman also reiterated rumors that next-generation MacBook Air models with M3 chips won’t be released until early 2024; The larger “professional” version of the “iMac” with a 32-inch screen and new design is planned for late 2024 or 2025. When Apple starts adding touch screens to the series in the future, the Mac will most likely see a design change.
