The new survey feature on Instagram was announced by Instagram president Adam Mosseri on his channel. He emphasized that these surveys can be added to both regular posts in the feed and comments on videos.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the owner of Instagram, also commented on this new development and said: currently in testing phasehowever, it will eventually be distributed to all Instagram accounts.

It already was but not quite

This isn’t the first time Instagram users have been able to vote on the platform. Polls have been a feature in Instagram Stories for a while now, allowing users to add poll stickers to their stories. These polls were also visible to other users, along with statistics showing the number of votes.

Details about the new surveys based on comments remain unclear. It is possible that users who create these polls will be able to set a specific time period during which the polls will be available for voting, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Adding polls to comments is another step towards diversifying engagement. At Meta, we believe that a dynamic social media experience will contribute to greater user engagement. While this feature is currently only available to a select group of creators, it’s expected to become standard across all Instagram accounts in the near future.
