HyperOS from Xiaomi will be officially introduced at the presentation of the Xiaomi 14 series in China on October 26. The day before, the company started promoting its new software.

Earlier today, the company shared the system software breakthrough. He also revealed the architecture of his new software.

As we expected, HyperOS looks like it will be Xiaomi’s answer to Huawei’s HarmonyOS. According to the company architecture, the software consists of 5 levels. The lowest layer is the hardware, followed by the kernel layer. HyperOS uses Linux and Vela kernels. For those who don’t know, Vela is Xiaomi’s IoT platform based on NuttX RTOS.

Thus, the third level uses Android’s services and frameworks as well as Vela. The second and third levels will probably be different for different devices.

For example, smartphones and tablets can run Linux and Android. On the other hand, IoT devices can use Vela. But with all that said, both systems will be called “HyperOS” as Huawei advertises HarmonyOS.

The fourth level is HyperConnect. This will allow all devices to communicate with each other, even if their third and second layers are different. Finally, the fifth level consists of programs. Although Xiaomi doesn’t mention it, we believe the third tier will also include GMS (Google Mobile Services) for smartphones and tablets sold outside China.

Xiaomi says HyperOS has been in development for 13 years, with the release of MIUI in 2010. However, the real research and development started 7 years ago in 2017 with the introduction of Xiaomi Vela.
