According to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will buy between 18,000 and 20,000 AI servers before 2024. They would feature the Nvidia HGX H100 8 GPU. Ming-Chi shares this via the Medium platform. The total amount of this purchase would be $4.75 billion.
AI is everywhere and is still growing like digital cabbage. A company like Apple cannot lag behind. According to Ming-Chi, the American company also purchased several thousand AI servers this year for an amount of $620 million.
The difference in volumes between this year and 2024 is said to be primarily due to insufficient inventory at Nvidia and not to Apple’s reluctance. The chipmaker has been selling literally tons of GPUs lately. Ming-Chi does mention that Apple placed its order a little later than Nvidia’s other major customers.
Although the analyst primarily expects the Nvidia HGX H100 8, which is designed for AI training, he also sees a role for the Blackwell B100 GPU in the future. That’s coming next year.
