American astrogeologist Eugene Shoemaker became the only Earthling whose ashes were buried on the moon.

He is from Los Angeles, born on April 28, 1928. He was fond of science since childhood, graduated from high school ahead of his peers, and at the age of 16 entered the California Institute of Technology.

Shoemaker became the founder of astrogeology, studied lunar rocks, studied the features of the craters of our satellite.

He was the first person to discover Comet Levi 9, which crashed into Jupiter in 1994. The community of scientists claims that for the first time astronomers managed to observe the collision between two celestial bodies in the Solar System.

He dreamed of flying to the moon, but his health did not allow him to become an astronaut. The scientist died in a car accident in July 1997. According to the last will of the scientist, it was requested that the body be cremated and buried in one of the lunar craters.

The scientific community realized this dream by recognizing the merits of a colleague. A year after his death, the Moon Seeker dropped a capsule containing the scientist’s ashes into one of the craters of the moon.
