There’s no mention of the word Windows 12, but it seems the next version of Windows will be all about AI.

During the announcement of the new, surprisingly powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite ARM chip for laptops, a video of an interview between the CEOs of Microsoft and Qualcomm was shown.

In this conversation, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that both organizations are working closely together to take advantage of NPUs (Neural Processing Units) that can perform local generative AI calculations.

“For me, Copilot’s AI is central, in Windows or within various apps such as Microsoft 365. A new generation of AI PCs is coming. We must work together to bring these new experiences together. Something like this can only happen with a new system architecture.”

Nadella hasn’t officially confirmed a new version of Windows, but there’s enough to be read between the lines that Windows 12 is coming and will focus heavily on AI.

“Copilot is like a start button. It becomes the orchestrator of all your app experiences. For example, if I go there and give my intention, I will be redirected to an application or the application will be redirected to the copilot. It helps me learn, query and create – and I think it completely changes our user habits.”

If Microsoft continues with its strategy of releasing the major Windows update to everyone after the summer, we would see Windows 12 for the first time after the summer. An announcement at the Build developer conference, traditionally in May, seems like a good place to start. Until then, we’ll continue to see if a new Windows version is released.
