Microsoft is integrating its core Secured initiative into its own Surface range. Under this name, Microsoft provides additional security, including by eliminating third-party firmware and maintaining control over important components.

Microsoft is bringing Secured Core to all of its Surface computers. The manufacturer introduced Secured Core on the Surface X Pro in 2019, but other manufacturers such as HP are also using it sensibly. The initiative has now even found its way onto servers.

Additional firmware

Secured Core is a concept where the manufacturer uses its own firmware to secure a computer before Windows actually loads. This firmware is used to check, among other things, the BIOS and the Windows code. The additional security also works closely with the security features of Windows 11 itself. Additional firmware, whether via an additional chip or not, offers additional protection for computers, for example against rootkits, but also against more complex attacks.

Although Microsoft introduced the idea, the Windows builder has only now announced that it will fully adopt Secure-Core. All new Surface computers will be Secured Core computers.
