Messaging app Threads is on track to reach 100 million monthly users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He claimed this in the last quarterly meeting.
Reports of Threads’ impending death have been greatly exaggerated. Zuckerberg said this in the last quarterly meeting. According to Mark with a K, the Instagram-linked messaging app is on its way to one hundred million monthly users.
The first few months of Threads have already been a bumpy ride. The app experienced spectacular growth due to global interest, but usage numbers declined quite quickly. Meta has now made the effort to also offer a web version of the Instagram app.
The original intent was to make Threads a competitor to Twitter. This has already led to a legal battle, but we’re still waiting for the much-discussed cage fight between Zuckerberg and Elon Musk (now the owner of X).
In a rare interview with American technology website The Verge, Zuckerberg said he was happy with Thread’s development in its first three months. He also recognizes that there is still a lot to do, the focus now is on growth. Threads is currently not available in the EU.
In the same interview, Zuckerberg also confirmed that there had once been talks between him and Twitter about a takeover. So the social media landscape could have looked very different today.
