Xiaomi launches HyperOS with AI features and improved performance

Xiaomi has been using MIUI to power all its smartphones for over a decade. The company has made a lot of progress lately and MIUI 14 has been launched as the best and lightest version yet. It even had some nice features, at least in China.

However, Xiaomi has now announced a new operating system called HyperOS, which is almost the death knell for MIUI. HyperOS is said to have the smallest firmware size in the industry and also improves security, performance, and multitasking.

The essence of the new HyperOS

Xiaomi has detailed HyperOS in many words but we’ll keep it short and sweet for you. Starting from this there are changes to the user interface. You get even more lock screen customization options with new templates, fonts, and widgets. The control center has been improved and looks more optimized compared to MIUI 14. However, app icons in HyperOS look similar to MIUI 14.

Security and firmware size

Xiaomi has also added new security features, including the TEE security system, which handles sensitive content separately. It provides complete visibility of every connection by providing transparent and manageable Internet permissions.

Xiaomi says the HyperOS firmware can be resized to suit the needs of different hardware. Notably, the firmware of the mobile phone is very small at only 8.75 GB, making it the smallest device in the industry.

Features of artificial intelligence

HyperOS has a built-in massive AI model that supports features like Xiaoai Input Assistant for creating text, WPS Document Scanning for text recognition in documents, AI Wonderful Painting for turning doodles into drawings, and AI Visual Search for intuitive image search. The device also has tighter integration with the cloud.

Cross-device collaboration

The new operating system also enables seamless collaboration between devices, allowing applications to use the hardware of multiple devices. For example, Camera Collaboration allows you to use the phone’s rear camera during video conferencing on PC for better video quality.

Network collaboration improves communications by allowing devices to access the phone’s 5G network for fast and reliable connections. Cross-device focus notification allows you to share notifications between devices so you can see taxi information from your phone, for example, from your TV.

Productivity

HyperOS is perhaps the most significant update to Xiaomi’s operating system to date. This transformation includes improved memory management that provides significantly faster startup speed and improved background applications.

The file system is optimized to maintain long-term I/O performance. The graphics subsystem offers real-time blurring for smoother motion effects.

When will HyperOS come to your phones?

Xiaomi announced that the official version of HyperOS will start in December 2023 for Chinese models and in the first quarter of 2024 for international models. Xiaomi 14 series, Redmi K60 Extreme Edition and Xiaomi Pad 6 Max will be the first devices with the new operating system.
