We first learned about Paul McCartney’s plans for Now and Thenalthough at the time it was still not entirely clear that this was indeed the recording, it was before the gates of summer, in mid-June, at the exact moment when the arrival of artificial intelligence, the world of music was surrounded by numerous controversies, which even led the organization of the Grammy Awards to to comment on the matter, stating that artificial intelligence is not qualified to win one of its prestigious awards.

In case you don’t know what we’re talking about, we found out last June Paul McCartney worked on a unique project. Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon, had her husband make some recordings. The problem, of course, is that their quality was low and they weren’t complete songs, just little “demos” of what were undoubtedly future projects that were cut short on that fateful night of December 8, 1980. Mark David Chapman fired five bullets at him (four of which hit), ending his life, yes, but also elevating him to the category of legend.

As I said, Yoko Ono kept those recordings, and although she first recorded the Now and Then demo at that time, the Beatles had long since broken up, he wrote “For Paul” on it, a wish Ono respected.. However, there was no indication that this recording could become a song, The Beatles’ last song… but then 2021 came and everything changed.

That year, Peter Jackson released The Beatles: Get Back, a documentary whose production used artificial intelligence to separate voices from the sound of instruments in the band’s classic recordings. This came as a surprise to McCartney, who until then was unaware of the vast possibilities of today’s artificial intelligence. So with this revelation, he thought the time had come, Now and Then, that it would finally be possible to turn that recording into the song that at some point Lennon had dreamed it would become.

Since then, many of us have been waiting for its release and we finally know when it will happen. This was announced by the band’s official website Now and Then, a Beatles song created by artificial intelligence, will be released on November 2nd, Thursday of next week. The launch will take place at 14:00 GMT, 15:00 in mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla and 14:00 in the Canary Islands.

Technology used to be to separate Lennon’s voice from the piano that accompanied him on the recording It is owned by Peter Jackson, who actively collaborated on this project, which had the approval of Ringo Starr and, of course, Lennon himself, two members of the band who are still alive (George Harrison died in 2001, at the age of 58, due to lung cancer) . Undoubtedly, this is one of those opportunities that AI has truly contributed to in a unique way and that many of us appreciate.
