Fortinet is expanding its SASE offerings. The security specialist is launching a new device to support remote locations, tinkering with its financial consumption model and expanding the number of cloud locations.
Fortinet expands its Universal SASE offering. FortiSASE ensures that anyone can securely connect to IT resources from anywhere, both on-premises and in the cloud. Fortinet sees itself as a unique contact for everything related to security, among other things Secure Access Service Edge. That makes sense, says the security specialist, whose FortiOS software brings together firewall, SD WAN, secure web gateway, encryption, CASB, zero trust and more.
Three innovations
So that’s FortiSASE, but what’s new? Fortinet points out three things:
- 100 locations worldwide: FortiSASE is based on a scalable cloud network that includes the same SASE stack found in FortiGate devices. The manufacturer offers this functionality through its regional FortiSASE cloud locations, of which there are now hundreds available worldwide.
- FortiGate 120G: This device handles a lot of the SASE work in the field and does it at a fast pace thanks to the SP-ASIC. This is a chip tailored to security tasks that, among other things, can check encrypted SSD packages at above-average speed.
- FortiFlex for FortiSASE: Fortinet expands FortiFlex. FortiFlex is a consumption model where you pay for the SASE stack in a subscription formula. The offering includes components on-premises and in the cloud.
Fortinet considers its offering to be unique in the industry because it is more than just SASE. The company offers hardware and software in the cloud and on-premises, all on one platform. This ensures that traffic is optimally secured and no traffic is diverted unnecessarily. Organizations can connect offices through the FortiGate SD-WAN appliances, FortiExtender and FortiSwitch offer similar capabilities for small edge locations, and the hybrid worker can connect to the SASE system through a client on the computer.
