Chinese astronauts from the Shenzhou-16 manned mission successfully returned to Earth after five months in space at the Tiangong orbital station.

This was reported by Xinhua, citing the China Manned Space Agency, Ukrinform reported.

The Shenzhou-16 lander, carrying three astronauts, touched down at a landing site in the Gobi Desert in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China at 8:11 a.m. local time (2:11 a.m. Kiev time).

About 50 minutes before landing, the lander separated from the Shenzhou-16 orbital module and activated its brake engine, reducing its speed to a safe level for the crew inside, the agency said.

After the capsule landed, a ground search team arrived at the landing site; Medics examined the astronauts and confirmed that they were in satisfactory health, after which they were transferred to the Jiuquan Space Center in the area.

China launched the Shenzhou-16 manned spacecraft on May 30. This was the fifth crewed mission to the China Tiangong space station.

The astronauts of this mission spent a total of 154 days in orbit, conducting 70 space experiments, spacewalks, and conducting various online lessons from the space station for Chinese schoolchildren and students on Earth.

As Ukrinform reported, on Thursday, October 26, the Chinese Space Agency launched the Shenzhou-17 manned spacecraft with three taikonauts on board, which successfully arrived at the Tiangong orbital station.

This team is planned to work in space for 5 months.
