Nothing externally changes. The inside of the iMac gets a welcome boost in performance thanks to the Apple M3 chip.

During Apple’s “Scary Fast” event, the manufacturer announced new MacBook Pro models, three new M3 chips and finally an update to the iMac range. Since mid-2021, the iMac has received special attention from Apple. Then the all-in-one computer received a completely new design, many color options and an Apple M1 chip.

After 2.5 years of waiting, the new iMac with the latest Apple M3 chip is finally here. It has an 8-core CPU with four performance cores and four efficiency cores and a 10-core GPU. You can configure the device with a maximum of 24GB RAM and 2TB storage.

According to Apple, the new iMac works up to 30 percent faster than the previous model within productivity apps such as Safari or Microsoft Excel. The new chip now also supports Wi-Fi 6E, while the Apple M1 only supported Wi-Fi 6.

Anyone who spends a lot of time editing photos or videos will benefit from the new model. In Photoshop, the iMac with the M3 chip should work up to two times faster and, according to Apple, the all-in-one can process up to twelve 4K streams at the same time.

New chip… and that’s it

Otherwise nothing changes at all on the iMac. The seven colorful options are still available, including peripherals that charge via Lightning. We can’t understand why Apple hasn’t updated this to USB-C like it did recently with the iPhone.

The new iMac will be available starting November 7th. The starting price is 150 euros higher than the old M1 model. The basic version with 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU and without Ethernet and USB-A port is available from 1,619 euros. An upgrade to a 10-core GPU and the additional ports will cost you 1,849 euros. The top model with 512 GB of storage costs 2,079 euros.
