A record-breaking DDoS attack lasting almost three days was recorded in 2023

Qrator Labs, which specializes in ensuring the availability of internet resources and neutralizing DDoS attacks, shared interesting statistics according to the results of the third quarter of 2023.

As in the previous period, the sector that suffered the most from DDoS attacks was the finance sector, with 42.06% of the total number of attacks.

The maximum attack time broke the first record this year. An attack on the transport and logistics segment (airports) took place at the end of August and was the longest continuous attack of the year, lasting almost three days. It even surpassed last year’s fourth quarter figure, when the longest attack lasted almost 70 hours. The press service said:

An attack on the transport and logistics (airports) segment took place at the end of August and was the longest continuous attack of the year, lasting almost three days (71 hours and 58 minutes). This was a complex, multi-vector attack with commercial (optional) attack characteristics: UDP+SYN+TCP.

The total number of blocked IPs increased from 18.5 million to 40.15 million, an increase of 116.42% compared to the second quarter. At the same time, the number of program-level attacks continued to decrease in the third quarter. This time the indicator fell by another 26.67% compared to the second quarter of this year.
