Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), one of the country’s largest aircraft manufacturers, transferred the first two cargo aircraft converted from ARJ21 Xiangfeng passenger aircraft to the airline.

reported Xinhua reported Ukrinform.

The converted aircraft has a design maximum payload of 10 tonnes and a flight range of approximately 2,800 kilometers.

It is primarily intended for the transportation of goods, mail and express shipments on short domestic and international routes.

The program to convert the ARJ21 passenger aircraft into a cargo COMAC began in May 2020 and received airworthiness approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in January this year.

Home to a developed e-commerce and express delivery industry, China is Asia’s largest air cargo market, driving demand for light cargo aircraft.

Experts predict the commercial success of the cargo ARJ21, which can create serious competition for manufacturers of traditional aircraft of this class in the markets of low-tonnage and special cargo transportation, including in high mountain regions.

The Comac ARJ21 Xiangfeng is a regional passenger jet manufactured by Shanghai-based COMAC. Its development began in March 2002, the first flight took place in November 2008, and mass production started in the summer of 2017.

By the end of last year, approximately 100 ARJ21 aircraft were operated by Chinese and foreign air carriers.

Danish company Ukrinform, the world’s largest shipping company, reported Maersk introduced the world’s first biofuel (methanol) powered ship.
