North Korea is in the final stages of preparations for the launch of its reconnaissance satellite.

According to Ukrinform, this situation was reported by the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) at a closed meeting of the parliamentary intelligence committee. Yonhap.

“North Korea is believed to be in the final stages of preparation, especially regarding testing its engines and launch systems,” lawmaker Yoo Sang-beom was quoted as saying by NIS representatives.

Pyongyang’s two previous attempts to launch a satellite earlier this year failed.

According to the South’s intelligence, North Korea appears to have received technological assistance from Russia, so the satellite launch mission may have a higher probability of success.

The space technology assistance was believed to be one of the results of a September meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. But North Korea still lacks the funds and technology to implement its plans.

NIS also shared intelligence about a possible arms and technology trade between North Korea and Russia. It is stated that North Korea has probably provided more than 1 million artillery shells and other weapons to Russia since the beginning of August.

Additionally, according to South Korean intelligence, North Korea sent a delegation of experts on rocket launcher systems to Russia in mid-October.

As for the war between Israel and Hamas militants, according to Yu, the NIS reported indications that Kim Jong-un had ordered the authorities to develop measures to provide comprehensive assistance to Palestine.

“North Korea seems to be trying to benefit from the war between Israel and Hamas in various ways,” said a South Korean parliamentarian.

Putin and Kim reportedly met in the Russian Federation in the Far East in September. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had recently visited Pyongyang, and before that, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had visited Pyongyang.
