India presented its own satellite Internet analogue Starlink

The creators of the project saved a lot; They don’t order launch services and they don’t build their own satellites. Instead, Reliance Jio leased them from SES, one of the world’s leading satellite operators. As a result, gigabit Internet became available even in the most remote parts of the country.

Detail

Reliance Jio uses medium orbit satellite technology, i.e. 2,000 to 35,786 kilometers above sea level. Compared to geostationary orbit in this region, satellites exhibit lower signal latencyThis makes it possible to provide service at high speed and with low latency compared to traditional satellite internet.

SES provided devices such as O3b and O3b mPOWER. It is not said how many satellites SpaceFiber serves in total, but it is known that the total number of satellites owned by SES is just over 70.

According to the company’s statement, the power of its new technologies will be sufficient to support the True5G Internet connection format.

It’s unclear what prospects Starlink might have right now. While Elon Musk plans to enter the Indian market only, Reliance Jio has already received permission to operate from the Ministry of Telecom. It is currently serving many remote parts of the country like Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam in test mode. It’s currently unclear where this service will expand next and how quickly.
