Analog Lab Play, a free and highly recommended “synthesizer”

Synthesis of tools such as the one offered by this Analog Lab Play from Arturia, creates very mixed opinions among music lovers. Most, say conservatives, traditionalists, and/or Luddites, think that to think that virtual instruments are an insult, that their sound will never come remotely close to the sound of those they are trying to imitate, and that therefore any musical creation that uses them it doesn’t deserve to be considered music.

Others (myself included) think that while it’s true that there are differences (in some cases more than others, it’s important to clarify), “synthesizers” to expand the reach of music creation to completely unthinkable levels until not so long ago. And if synthesis in its beginnings was synonymous with the exploration of new sounds, which at the time were abundantly explored by geniuses such as the unforgettable Vangelis, thanks to the advent of MIDI and the development of the relationship between instruments, computers and software, the synthesis of real instruments began to evolve to the current point where the quality some solutions of this type are simply surprising.

Arturia, the creators of this Analog Lab Play, is a well-known company in the industry and also usually from time to time, offer some of your products for free. We already saw this at the end of 2021 with MELLO-FI, a filter for digital audio workstations (commonly known by its acronym in English, DAW) that they offered free for a limited time and that allowed you to quickly and easily apply lo-fi to our tracks .

In this case, the proposal is even more interesting, and it is Arturia offers Analog Lab Play for free with no time limit. You can download it from this link and yes, you will need to register the first time you use it (if you don’t already have an account, of course). Registration is free and will give you access to a standalone app and allow you to use it from other apps. In this regard, I did a quick test with Magix Music Maker 2022 and its performance is second to none.

Those who already knew Analog Lab Play will probably be surprised, so in your case it is important to specify, namely it has now become Analog Lab Pro, which retains its previous price of 199 euros and includes a much more complete selection of sounds, 2,000 compared to the 100 included in this new free version. However, for anyone who wants to make or is making their first steps in music editing-composition on PC, as well as for those who were curious about this Arturia tool, you can now get this version, limited in number of sounds but 100% functional, they have an exceptional opportunity.
