October closed with one of the most important news for the smartphone world: Xiaomi now has its own operating system HyperOS. Even though it’s based on Android, it’s been completely redesigned. Vivo wants to follow in Xiaomi’s footsteps, but in this case it plans to go one step further.

The company has made BlueOS official, an alternative to Android. It is a standalone operating system developed in Rust that is not compatible with Android applications., at least in the first version developed for smart watches.

Developed in Rust. BlueOS will be Vivo’s new operating system. A new software framework in which all devices of the Chinese company will be included. It will be developed in the Rust programming language, which is a rather strange step that takes it away from Java.

The promise of efficiency. BlueOS promises to run on devices with up to 200 MHz CPUs and 32 MB RAM. The goal is to be a system that is much lighter than Android, runs with minimal hardware configuration, and can be adapted to all types of devices.

According to Vivo, its new system solves memory management, application launch speed and memory occupancy better than Android.

The gateway to a new artificial intelligence model. Artificial intelligence was impossible to miss in this new BlueOS system. Vivo mentions that the system was born as access to a great artificial intelligence model. Thanks to generative languages, they will be able to produce text, images, audio and other content based on natural interaction. It’s a similar offering to Xiaomi’s with HyperOS, a system where the gallery itself can edit photos with AI-generated backgrounds.

For now, mobile phones will continue with Android. BlueOS has been in development since 2018 and is planned to be the brand’s new native operating system. However, it will not be available on mobile phones in the early stages of its development. The first device to be released will be the Vivo Watch 3, the company’s first smartwatch with this operating system.

It has already been confirmed that the Vivo X100 will come with OriginOS, so there is no set date for the transition from Android to the new operating system. On the watch side, it will not be compatible with Android applications: BlueOS is a new system, not WearOS based. The same will happen on mobile phones, this system is completely new, not android based.

The question remains whether the system will be aimed at European users or will remain in China. More details on this subject are expected to emerge at the launch of Vivo X100 on November 13.
