The British government has announced that it will invest 225 million pounds (US$273 million) in the development of a supercomputer with artificial intelligence.

This was reported by CNBC, as reported by Ukrinform.

The University of Bristol will create a supercomputer called Isambard-AI, in memory of 19th-century British engineer Isambard Brunel.

The government has said Isambard-AI will be the most advanced computer in the UK.

The computer is said to be equipped with 5448 GH200 Grace Hopper superchips, which are powerful AI chips produced by American semiconductor giant Nvidia.

American IT giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise will help build the computer, which will later be connected to the University of Cambridge’s recently announced Dawn supercomputer. Created by Dell and British company StackPC, this computer will be powered by more than 1,000 chips from Intel that use water cooling to reduce power consumption.

It is expected to be operational within the next two months.

The UK government hopes combining two supercomputers will revolutionize fusion energy, healthcare and climate modelling.

As Ukrinform reports, LUMI, Europe’s fastest and most energy-efficient supercomputer, has been launched in Kajani, Finland.
