This was confirmed to Engadget by the company’s spokesperson, Ukrinform reported.

“Using ad blocking filters violates YouTube Terms and Conditions.” We’ve launched a global effort to encourage viewers to allow ads on YouTube by enabling these filters or try YouTube Premium to avoid seeing ads (paid subscription – ed.),” the spokesperson said.

He said the ads “support a diverse ecosystem of creators around the world and allow billions of people to access the content they love on YouTube.”

It was stated that in a “small experiment” conducted earlier this year, YouTube began to strictly adhere to the use of ad-blocking filters.

The company first showed users pop-ups telling them it was against their “Website Terms of Service” and then put a timer on those notifications to make sure people read them.

In June, YouTube took a more aggressive approach, warning viewers that they could not play more than three videos unless they turned off the ad-blocking filter.

As Ukrinform reported, the European Court in Luxembourg allowed YouTube not to disclose data of online hackers.
