Snowflake introduces Snowflake Cortex. This is a solution that sits between users and development baiters on the one hand and your data on the other. With Snowflake Cortex, you can quickly leverage AI to extract value from data. Cortex is a fairly broad layer that includes both out-of-the-box AI capabilities and… Large language models (LLMs) to data. The crux of the matter is a serverless approach.
Pre-built functions
As for the out-of-the-box component, Snowflake offers immediate access to the previously announced Document AI, Universal Search, and Snowflake Copilot. Document AI is capable of reading unstructured data, such as the content of PDFs. Universal search allows you to quickly find information from a wide range of data that is currently relevant. The copilot is ready to answer questions in natural language, for example to help you write the right SQL queries or gain specific insights.
Snowflake also includes LLMs like Llama 2 in Cortex. These serve as building blocks and can be used to quickly implement specific, customized functions. Streamlit allows you to immediately integrate AI functionality into simple applications. Developers can also build more complex applications using the Cortex building blocks and use external LLMs for their data. If the whole thing requires a little more customization, the Snowpark Container Services already announced by Snowflake are of course also an option.
Snowflake Cortex essentially helps users leverage AI to extract value from their own data in a relatively simple way, without the need for complex integrations.
With Nvidia
The company calls itself Data cloud and prides itself on not only collecting and accessing organizations’ data, but also giving them the tools to securely share that data with other organizations. Once relevant and enriched data is available, the next step is analysis, which is increasingly done using AI. Last summer, Snowflake announced just in time that it was teaming up with Nvidia and bringing GPU capabilities to the Snowflake platform. The data specialist is now building on this foundation with Cortex.
