Operating systems race: After Huawei and Xiaomi, Vivo is preparing the Android replacement

There is nothing surprising in the fact that it is Chinese companies that begin to actively create their own operating systems one after another. After what happened to Huawei – US sanctions nearly drove it into bankruptcy – smartphone and other electronics manufacturers do not want to repeat the same fate, so they are trying to move forward because there is no guarantee that the US will not block the supply of goods to all Chinese tech brands tomorrow or a year from now and in general We will distribute software.

Detail

At an event organized by Vivo, company employees talked about the main features of the new operating system. It is still under development, but some of its features are already emerging.

  • BlueOS is the first fully featured operating system. Rust programming language is usedNowadays, it is very popular among mobile application and computer program developers, especially with the support of artificial intelligence.
  • The company hasn’t said whether it will write the operating system code entirely from scratch, or whether BlueOS will be based on AOSP code (which is pure Android without Google services) like Huawei’s HarmonyOS and Xiaomi’s HyperOS. But there is such a possibility, so in this case the system will be supplemented with its own modules that ensure the operation of various types of devices within the framework of the general ecosystem.
  • Also reportedly The capabilities of neural networks and generative artificial intelligence will be used extensively in BlueOS. It is unclear how deeply the technology is integrated into the system. The closest competitors, Android and iOS, are also actively incorporating AI into their systems today, but the functions mostly concern some minor settings, such as creating wallpapers or stickers.
  • Vivo promises this BlueOS will be extremely undemanding to hardware resources and will be able to run on devices equipped with a processor with a clock frequency of 200 megahertz and 32 megabytes or more of RAM. This opens up possibilities for its use not only in smartphones and tablets, but also in more miniature devices such as smartwatches and smart home devices.

It is not yet known when BlueOS will be released. Also, screenshots of the interface have not been shown yet.
