AMD makes a profit, but dampens expectations

AMD reports positive results in its latest quarterly results. Both sales and profits increased compared to the previous year and the last quarter.

In its most recent quarter, AMD reported revenue of $5.8 billion, which equates to a profit of $266 million after all costs. That is four or 353 percent more than a year ago. The numbers also look good compared to the last quarter. Sales are growing, as are margins, showing that AMD is competing well with Intel Nvidia.

However, investors are not simple people. Given the black growth numbers, AMD forecast revenue of $6.1 billion for the next quarter, which is less than the $6.4 billion that analysts had previously pulled out of the hat.

A and me

AMD’s shares fell briefly after the quarterly results were announced, but CEO Lisa Su had a not-so-secret weapon: AI. She explained that AMD has more to offer than you might think and plans to go to war against Nvidia, including with the Instinct MI300 series as an advantage. Many shareholders were probably already sold on the magic letters A and I, causing the stock to rise sharply after the initial decline.

AMD’s money largely comes from the client industry, where Ryzen Mobile is becoming increasingly popular. This shows that AMD is gradually finding its place in laptops. The data center sector is also growing, while gaming and embedded are declining slightly.
