The latest data from Steam’s hardware and software survey, obtained in October of this year, confirms that Windows 11 suffered a big drop and that Windows 10 benefited greatly. The numbers are very clear, the first down 6.90% over the past month, while Windows 10 increased by 7.61%.
It’s a very curious result that confirms that Windows 11 crashing on Steam is a trend. We already saw this last month with the September data where the operating system was mentioned recorded a decrease of 1.79%. The decline was much less pronounced than in October, so we can also clearly say that the trend has worsened. from his side Windows 10 rose 1.99% in September.so it not only maintains its uptrend but enhances it with a bullish figure.
I get the impression that some users have made up their minds go back from Windows 11 to Windows 10, or that there has been a large influx of users with this latest operating system. In the rest of the operating systems we have relatively small movements, macOS fell 0.24% and Linux also fell 0.24%. Red numbers in general with the only exceptions being macOS 14 64-bit which was up 0.28% and macOS 13.6.0 64-bit which was up 0.06%.

Looking at the survey results at the hardware level, we find that the 16GB RAM configuration continues to be the most used, although it has dropped by 3.27% and the 32GB RAM has increased by 8.28%. With those changes the first gets 48.06% and the second gets 30.96%. The difference between the two remains clear and we won’t see 32GB in the top spot in the short or medium term.
In terms of CPUs, the 6-core, 12-thread chips extend their lead with a 4.76% increase, making them the total 39.75% quotas. The second position is for quad-core processors, which have 18.91%, followed by octa-core processors, which Hot on their heels with 18.16%.
Now we jump to the graphics cards and see it GeForce RTX 3060 strengthens its leadership with a 3.58% increase which leaves her with 9.68% of the total. This is a lot, considering the large number of models that are collected in this category. In second place is GeForce RTX 2060 and in third is GeForce RTX 3070. Within the Ada Lovelace series, the most successful model is GeForce RTX 4070, which grew by 1.16% and took the 11th position. .
On the AMD side, the next generation graphics card that is best placed is the Radeon RX 7900 XTX with 0.19% of the total. The rest of the data this survey leaves us with reflects a very important change that frankly surprised me, namely Simplified Chinese has grown so much that it has overtaken English as the most widely used language.
