Israel continues to fight against Hamas and repel Houthi rocket attacks from Yemen. The Defense Force demonstrated how one of the missiles was shot down by an F-35 Lightning II fighter jet.
The video was recorded on November 2, 2023. It shows how a fifth-generation fighter jet intercepts a cruise missile flying towards Israel. This is likely another projectile launched by Iran’s proxies. Previously, the Houthis demonstrated the launch of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Israeli version of the F-35A is called F-35I Adir. This configuration features additional Israeli-made avionics, including an indigenous electronic warfare system. As for the interception, the type of missile fired was not specified. The fighter may have used an air-to-air AIM-9X Sidewinder.
The Israeli Air Force will be the second largest foreign operator of the F-35A Lighting II in the future. This will follow the delivery of an additional batch of 25 aircraft ordered in summer 2023. The cost is estimated at $ 3 billion. Only in Japan there are more fifth-generation fighter jets with conventional take-off than in the United States.
It is worth noting that the incident is a historical event. The first to intercept the cruise missile was the Israeli F-35. Source
