Palo Alto acquires security startup Dig

American cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks reports that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Israeli startup Dig Security. The company specializes in Data Security Posture Management (DSPM).

Israeli security startups are popular. A few months after Rubrik acquired the young cybersecurity company Laminar, Palo Alto is following the same path. The deal is not yet 100% complete, but Palo Alto confirms that there is already a definitive agreement to acquire Dig Security. This Israeli startup focuses on data security posture management.

In the clouds

According to the press release, almost 70 percent of companies store data in the cloud. However, due to the influence of generative AI, this would be quite widespread. Added to this is the ongoing threat of cyberattacks targeting the same data in the cloud. According to Palo Alto’s own research, eight out of ten vulnerabilities within an organization can be found in the cloud.

That’s why Palo Alto is expanding its portfolio to include a DSPM specialist. This allows sensitive data to be transferred across all cloud environments:

  • Discovered
  • Classified
  • Supervised
  • Protected

With this service, the American company wants to offer its customers more insight and control into and over their data in a multicloud. Once the deal closes, Dig’s capabilities will be integrated into Palo Alto’s Prisma Cloud platform.

After the acquisition, the three founders of Dig will continue to work with their teams on a smooth merger with the Prisma Cloud team. The amount for this acquisition would be $400 million.
