Would you like to hold a quick meeting on the go? This is now possible with Google Meet’s new On-the-go mode, a simplified interface to the video conferencing app.
On Wednesday, Google began rolling out “On-the-Go,” a new mode that will now be available in the Meet mobile app. As the name suggests, it was designed for on-the-go meetings, such as when you’re on foot or occasionally making a phone call from your car. If you receive a (video) call via the mobile application, a pop-up will appear asking whether you would like to use it on mobile.
The mode is a simplified version of the Google Meet interface. Video is automatically deactivated, both on your side and on that of the people you are talking to. When someone shares slides from a presentation, you will see them. Additionally, Google Meet only shows you buttons to mute, raise your hand, adjust call volume, and end the call. It doesn’t have to be anything more.
Google Meet on the Go is available to both paid Workspace users and those with a free personal account. For those who travel a lot, the mode can be a useful addition. If you primarily make calls from home or the office, you’ll benefit from the higher 1080p picture quality that’s been available for several months.
