It took a few questions, but we have it with us the first breakdown of the PS5 Slim, the long-awaited compact version of the PS5. Its official presentation allowed us to confirm numerous details about its size and design, and the truth is that, in general, this new console is solved much better than the original in both senses.

We know that the PS5 Slim maintains the division into a model with and without an optical drive, but introduces the concept of a replaceable optical drive, which means that if we buy a PS5 Slim without said drive We can buy it separately and add it later with simple assembly. However, we must keep in mind that we will have to activate the mentioned optical drive via the Internet, as we told you then in this article.

The first breakdown of the PS5 Slim allows us discover the most important secret of this console, including the type of APU used, the internal layout and the size of the cooling system. As expected, this console has a cooling system that, although based on the same foundation, has differences from the standard console. In this sense, it is the first thing that attracts attention design with four lids, which is a consequence of the intermediate line that divides each side cover into two halves.

Contact base It is smaller and has five copper pipes instead of four, which makes it possible to compensate for this smaller size by accelerating the transfer of heat to the radiator. The fan has also changed, now using a compact format with 19 blades. In the video we can also see how easy it is to remove and replace the optical drive, a process we can complete no tools or screws required.

PS5 Slim exploded

We still have a slot for M.2 SSD drives, which is completely compatible with the same units which we could mount on the original PS5. In terms of connectivity, we only have one difference in the PS5 Slim, and that is that it has two USB Type-C connectors on the front, while the standard model has USB Type-A and USB Type-C.

As for the APU, everything seems to point to the PS5 Slim using it the same 6nm node which we saw in the latest PS5 review. This node represents a minor evolution compared to the 7nm node we saw in the first version of the PS5 launched in November 2020. As you may have imagined, this means that the consumption figures between the two consoles are practically identical.

In terms of noise level, the PS5 Slim is a bit quieter overall, but produces a bit more noise in the area where the optical drive is located, possibly due to this new detachable design. Presence was also confirmed fewer chips in the field of unified memory and SSD storage system, just like the “other” driver. Sony probably used higher capacity chips to keep costs down, just like that.

As a reminder, the PS5 Slim will be available internationally in the coming days, albeit gradually depending on PS5 inventory, and will be priced the same as the standard PS5. In contrast, it will be equipped SSD with a capacity of 1 TBwhich is a significant improvement over the 825GB SSD that the original console had.
