The Euclid spacecraft created by the European Space Agency (ESA), launched in July, took the first five photographs in space.
According to Ukrinform’s report, ESA reports this.
“One of the first galaxies observed by Euclid was called the ‘Hidden Galaxy’. Also known as IC 342 or Caldwell 5, this galaxy is difficult to detect because it lies beyond our Milky Way disk, so dust, gas and stars hide it from us.” said.
IC 342 is located about 11 million light-years from Earth, which is “very close” to our galaxy and is thought to be similar to the Milky Way.
“It’s hard to study our own galaxy because we’re inside it and can only see it from the edge. By studying galaxies like IC 342, we can learn a lot about galaxies like ours,” said Euclid Consortium scientist Leslie Hunt of Italy’s National Institute of Astrophysics.
A photo of the core of the “Hidden Galaxy” was previously taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. However, it has not yet been possible to examine the star formation history of the entire galaxy.
As Ukrinform reported, on July 1, SpaceX launched the Euclid space probe into space, which will investigate hypothetical dark matter, dark energy, and their effects on the formation of the universe.
