Capcom is one of those great developers who decided to bet on Apple platforms by porting some of the latest installments of the saga. Resident Evil. After I repeated it Resident Evil Village would arrive (and has arrived) on the iPhone and iPad, now we’re finding out Resident Evil 4 remake arriving on iPhone, iPad, and macOS on December 20, 2023.
Apple hasn’t traditionally been into video games, but it’s managed to attract some big developers recently with the Game Porting Toolkit, a Wine-based toolkit that basically lets you start making port video games for macOS. In addition, the greater capabilities of mobile devices open the door to being able to run demanding video games, although this in itself is nothing new, as there are precedents such as BioShock.
What’s coming to iPhone, iPad and macOS will be a port of remake of Resident Evil 4a video game that lived up to the expectations that surrounded it, although it is not at all easy, because the original title is still considered one of the best action video games of all time and for many it is one of those titles that is in the Olympus that inhabits Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII and GTA Vto name a few obvious examples.
As for versions Resident Evil 4 remake that will hit Apple’s platforms, it’s likely that it will be offered at a temporary discount at launch. At the device level, the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any iPad or Mac computer that implements an Apple M1 processor or later are mentioned..

The game is expected to be able to run at 60 frames per second at Full HD+ resolution, although it will likely sacrifice graphics quality on some devices, knowing what quality it achieves compared to other platforms, especially PC. However, it is possible that the iPad Pro with the M2 processor will be able to run the title with maximum graphics settings and a resolution of 2732 × 2048 pixels.
To ensure a smooth experience, Resident Evil 4 remake for iPhone, iPad and macOS will use MetalFX, Apple’s scaling technology which aims to compete with NVIDIA’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR and Intel’s XeSS. As is customary from the giant with a bitten apple, only MetalFX will work on its devices, at least officially, so its approach is closer to DLSS than to FSR and XeSS, since the latter two technologies are able to work on competing graphics besides Apple.
Make it work Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Village on Apple devices, it’s a job that requires optimization, but we’ve already seen the Nintendo Switch support a behemoth like The Witcher 3, and the RE Engine is an engine that’s been able to offer good results on hardware that isn’t particularly powerful.
Finally, and although the source lists the release date as December 20th, it will appear in the App Store on December 31. We’ll see if December 20th corresponds to a geographic area that isn’t Europe, or if it’s something else.
