[Advertorial] Transparency in a growing IT landscape

Due to its extensive international presence, KTR Systems needed a robust system to efficiently manage its IT landscape across multiple locations and subsidiaries. Like many growing companies, KTR Systems found that the size and complexity of its IT infrastructure increased significantly with the number of new locations and systems. Without a strong system to manage and document evolving IT challenges, the company was at risk of losing track of its documentation and systems landscape.

With each new plant and technology solution implemented, KTR Systems faced the challenge of ensuring perfect connectivity, managing hardware and software dependencies, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the system architecture. The existing IT documentation process took up a lot of time and resources and sometimes carried the risk of outdated information. The company needed a comprehensive solution to identify network and communication dependencies, optimize IT documentation and enable efficient decision-making processes.

The combined forces of PRTG and Qbilon offer a solution

KTR Systems recognized the potential of Qbilon early in 2019 and decided to use this solution to take their EAM and IT documentation to the next level. Qbilon uses data from various tools via interfaces that help KTR Systems obtain a holistic view of various, interconnected systems. With Qbilon, the company received a centralized architectural overview that ensured that all information about the IT landscape was always captured in one archive and accessible to the right IT teams and administrators.

KTR Systems has been using PRTG’s monitoring functionality since 2011 for real-time insights into the network infrastructure. From servers and devices to applications and services, PRTG and Qbilon help KTR Systems get a current architectural view, identify potential bottlenecks and proactively resolve issues before they can impact IT system performance.

The combination of PRTG and Qbilon makes it easier to map our infrastructure, technical dependencies and processes. We have been supplementing our PRTG monitoring with Qbilon since 2019 and I fully trust the combination of both solutions“, says Olaf Korbanek, Head of IT at KTR Systems GmbH.

Automated documentation of the IT landscape

Documentation is one of the most unpopular tasks in IT and hardly anything is as dangerous as so-called “shadow IT”, in which certain programs are used that have not been approved by the IT department. Using PRTG and Qbilon makes it easier to do Enterprise Architecture Management even easier. With the help of data synchronization, KTR Systems keeps its IT documentation up to date without additional effort. Excel spreadsheets and manually created graphics are a thing of the past. Administrators can now focus on day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives and have confidence in the reliability of the data collected.

Planning support for migration projects

The insights into the IT landscape provided KTR Systems with the necessary planning support for replacing older systems. Extensive dependency diagrams from Paessler PRTG and other sources enabled the company to identify potential side effects and unexpected challenges in migration projects. The visualization of direct and indirect connections also made decision-making easier and ensured a transparent way of working with large amounts of data.

Automated reporting

A large amount of data without any interpretation is almost never useful. That’s why the reporting process has made great progress. The integration of PRTG and Qbilon enables the creation of automated reports for internal and external audits. The relevant information is automatically bundled into detailed but easily accessible reports about the existing IT infrastructure and interfaces. This automation not only allows employees to save time and effort and increase overall audit readiness; It is also relevant for creating important emergency plans.

Successful use cases like this one with KTR Systems show what a great addition Qbilon’s solutions are to PRTG users. Complete transparency of IT factors can only be achieved with the best possible architectural views at different levels of abstraction. Whether for cloud transformation projects, security issues or cost optimization: Qbilon offers PRTG customers real added value“, says Helmut Binder, CEO of Paessler AG.

A close partnership for the coming years

The collaboration between KTR Systems, Paessler and Qbilon has proven to be beneficial for all parties. Olaf Korbanek estimates that the combined strength of PRTG and Qbilon has led to a reduction in documentation effort by up to fifty percent. He also estimates the cost reduction for an effective emergency plan to be at least thirty percent.

In May 2023, Qbilon became part of the Paessler Group. This acquisition allows Qbilon’s strengths in the areas of architecture overview and network visualization to be even better combined with PRTG’s decades of monitoring expertise.

The combined power of PRTG and Qbilon

The interaction between PRTG and Qbilon gives KTR Systems the insight to safely navigate the growing IT landscape. Using visualization, detailed maps, and helpful notifications, KTR Systems gets a comprehensive view of its network resources, dependencies, and performance metrics.

This level of visibility allows the company to proactively address issues, optimize resource utilization, optimize costs, and future-proof its IT infrastructure.

Diploma

The synergies between PRTG and Qbilon were the catalysts that helped KTR Systems achieve effective EAM and gain a deep understanding of IT architecture. Data alone is often not enough. Architecture overviews at various levels of abstraction and comprehensive documentation ideally complement PRTG’s real-time monitoring and, together with the self-documenting emergency plan, provide a level of overview and security that is essential for any growing company with multiple locations.
