Samsung announced the launch of the Galaxy S Pen Creator Edition, an improved version of the S Pen stylus which the company ships with its Galaxy S Pad tablets and which comes after the recent announcement of the Apple Pencil, also new and cheaper versions of the Cupertino firm’s models.
Accessories and peripherals are key to unlocking the full potential of products such as electronic tablets and their multi-touch screens, and companies like Apple market the “iPad and Pencil” as a must-have combination for graphic designers. The new Galaxy S Pen Creator Edition is intended for the same group of users, for graphic design, drawing or writing.
Samsung increased the diameter of the pen to 0.9mm to make it easier to hold for long periods of time, although it is still a bit thinner than its rival, Apple Pencil. It’s about half the weight of Apple’s second-generation model and has an IPX4 rating that makes it resistant to splashes.
Chief among the improvements over the standard S Pen is improved tilt sensitivity give creators more precision when working with graphics. It does not have a battery and supports Bluetooth functions, but the user will be able to avoid recharging or being left hanging with a dead battery.
The new stylus can be magnetically placed in Samsung’s high-end tablets and is sold exclusively in white finish. It is compatible with the Galaxy S21 Ultra and later, Note 10 and later, the Galaxy Tab S range of e-tablets and Samsung computers compatible with styluses. Not compatible with Fold devices.
The official price of the Galaxy S Pen Creator Edition is 99 dollars. Samsung’s alternatives come from the standard S Pen that comes with Samsung’s S-series tablets and Galaxy S-series Ultra smartphones. There is also a specific edition for the Fold device.
