We’ve been saying for a long time that YouTube wants do away with ad blockers. This is normal, because in the end it is a technology that hurts the revenue that the platform receives in its free version, because it makes it completely impossible to play an ad in the browser with each new video.

Until now, YouTube was limited to showing ad blocker ads to users that didn’t affect the functionality of the site, meaning we could close this notification and continue browsing normally to play our favorite content. The truth is, once I found out, I couldn’t help but wonder How long would it take for Google to bring more serious charges against the blockers?and today I was able to verify that I was not mistaken.

This morning I was able to confirm first hand that there is now a block in the player that prevents us from continuing to use YouTube unless we disable the ad blocker. When we watch a total of three videos, each accompanied by a blocking notification, if we do not deactivate the ad blocker, YouTube stops working and shows us the message we see in the image.

youtube blockers

In short, if we use an ad blocker, the video is blocked from playing because we are allegedly violating the terms of service. According to Google, YouTube is powered by ads, something I totally understand because we, the media, also use advertising to generate income.

However, in the case of YouTube The problem is that ad usage has escalated in an aberrant and user-unfriendly way.. I distinctly remember on more than one occasion the service playing an 8 minute commercial while I was in the shower so I couldn’t skip the video. I don’t mean to be mean, but it’s a coincidence that YouTube use when we are not near the smartphone show longer ads.

On the other hand, even this platform has reached a point where we can find ourselves in many cases up to 40 seconds of ads for just three or four minutes of content. It is clear that the rejection of this measure by users is huge and it is likely that this measure is against European legislation. We’ll see what happens from all this, but from a personal point of view, I’m clear if I advertise on this platform If it wasn’t so over the top and annoying, I would never have thought to use sunscreen.. Take note, Google.
